Who The Heck Am I?
Pretty Typical Guy
I am an average middle aged guy dealing with the impacts and concerns of having had been overweight with high cholesterol for the better part of my life.
Most would say I have a typical, ordinary, and pleasant life. I’m 45 years old and live in nice suburb of Charlotte, NC. I have an amazing wife, a beautiful young daughter, and a fulfilling job that I enjoy.
Despite struggling with being overweight and having high cholesterol, I have no quality of life impacting health issues.
Pretty Typical Struggles
Like so many others, I have battled with my weight for quite some time. I have successfully lost weight many times and successfully gained it back every time. As you can see, my story is the classic yo yo cycle of weight management. I’ve never been severely obese or overweight. I usually bounce between and ideal weight and 30 or so pounds overweight on a 5’7″ frame.
I have studied and followed most all of the popular diets over the past 20 years. As a result, this has become a hobby and a passion of mine. From my experience, my key takeaway is that most all diets work when you follow them.
Not So Typical Wake Up Call
I have recently learned, through a procedure called a Calcium CT scan that I have coronary artery disease and I am at an increased risk of a having a cardiac event in the next 10 years.
My new diagnosis has been a huge wake up call for me. If I had to choose two words to describe the effect this information has had on me they would be impact and leverage.
This new awareness has become my primary driver for developing a lasting change. To this end, I have chosen to document my journey and share all of my learning from this point forward in my mission to obtain sustained healthy living for the remainder of my life.
Why Listen To Me?
By all accounts I am a pretty typical, ordinary, and seemingly insignificant individual who has dealt with common health challenges. This is most certainly true.
I have no formal education, degrees, or certifications in medicine or nutrition.
So what value does an average Joe like me have to to offer? Well, I believe that my ordinary life experience is precisely what enables me to serve as an extraordinary source of perspective and knowledge in the quest for successful sustained healthy living. If you follow my writing further I will do my best to explain why.
